School: School Without Walls HS

Grade: 11

Zodiac Sign: Capricorn/Year of the Rooster

Favorite Food: Japchae

What I care about: The mental health crisis

Hobbies/Activities: I really like learning languages. I’m studying French, Latin, and Japanese. I also like to travel, so I hope to be able to travel someday and immerse myself in different cultures. I’ve also played violin for six years and I’ve done taekwondo for four. In my free time, I like to read and draw. My favorite book genres are classic novels and historical fiction.

Aspirations: Because I like learning languages, I hope in the future I’ll be able to incorporate that into my career. I’d like to do something that allows me to travel, like work as a translator or in the foreign service. In college, I plan on doing at least one semester abroad to gain global experience.

Personal statement: I was drawn to the Japanese Plus program because it seemed like a fun way to further develop my interest in Japan and Japanese. Also, I did the Japanese Tamago program two years ago and really enjoyed it. During the program, I hope to improve my Japanese language skills, because I think learning a country’s language is one of the best ways to learn about its culture.
