Grade: Rising 9th Grader (Class of 2027)

Biography: I really like learning about new cultures. For example, I’m half Indonesian and I want to learn about my mother’s culture. The language, school life, traditions, relatives, etc. I’m also invested in looking at lost media. Like looking for missing pilot episodes. (Pilot episodes are preview episodes before the show comes out, like screenings to the public.) I also like looking at video game demos – the gameplay of a stage before the final product comes out. I’m also interested in the pop culture as well (J-pop, anime, etc.).

Expectations: I think something I expect is having a better understanding of Japanese culture, like what’s considered normal, etc. I want to know more about social norms over there and how they compare to the States’ social norms. I’m also interested in the food and I want to learn how to make some dishes. I also think the media is fascinating, like anime, movies, etc. I also think I’m drawn to the history of Japan (Taisho period, for example).
